Welcome to my Design Portfolio

Thank you for visiting my design portfolio website. As you navigate around my blog you will find projects I have done for a number of classes, all of which employ the new skills I have learned in my Media Graphics course.

After viewing my work you may notice a common theme, cars and snowboarding. Upon starting all of these assignments, I thought to myself, "What theme do I want to work around?" Like many things in life, I found it easy and inspiring to work with topics I enjoy in my personal life. I am an avid snowboarder and my head turns with awe every time I see a cool car cruising down the road. I hope you feel the same way as you take a look at my work. Thank you and enjoy.

Carhartt Soundslide

Taking the knowledge I've attained through my work in Media Graphics, I went ahead and created a Soundslides project for a Carhartt assignment I had to do in another class. To me the best part about taking a course in Media Graphics is that I can transfer all of these new skills and apply them in other elements of my design life. For this assignment specifically I took a whole new spin on the classic American blue-collar brand, Carhartt. Instead of the traditional look, I turned it into Carhartt X streetwear. This Soundslides project identifies my target consumer for this new Carhartt X line as youthful, extreme, and individualistic, which should be shown through the images and the upbeat song by Twisted Sister. Enjoy.

BMW M Designs

Much of my work has been dedicated to innovative ways to incorporate the renowned BMW M series into a variety of projects, posters, magazine layouts, etc. Not only do I personally feel that the BMW M is one of the all-around best cars on the market, it is also a flashy car with a strong message that looks great aesthetically in design work. Enjoy.

A Bumper Sticker

The following bumper sticker was made to highlight the new BMW M series design for 2009. The idea behind the project was to take the word 'better' and recreate it using the style and color from an actual BMW M logo. This was my first Media Graphics assignment and you'll notice that the rest of the projects follow a similar theme. You should also notice that as the class progresses our assignments become much more involved accordingly. Enjoy.

A BWM M Poster

My inspiration for this project came from the infamous slogan "Practice makes perfect." Year after year BMW finds innovative ways to improve their M line in the quest for near perfection. In this poster, for my background, I decided to use the classic penmanship paper that we all learned to write on as young kids. As the alphabet finally reaches "M", the BMW M logo is used to signify the car beneath it. I chose this particular M because the white color goes well with the rest of my design, along with the direction of the car. The majority of this piece was put together using InDesign, with a few alterations to the image via Photoshop. Enjoy.

A Magazine Layout

This magazine spread highlights a BMW M event that combines the ultimate driving experience with the ultimate mountain experience. Pairing driving with skiing is an event perfect for any thrill-seeking Bimmer enthusiasts. I came up with the idea from my personal ventures with skiing and driving. For this magazine layout I tried to mock the layout for the magazine Performance BMW. Using Adobe Photoshop and InDesign I was able to get pretty close to what I was going for, and even got to have a little fun on my own. Hopefully one day I will be in charge of coordinating an event such as this. Enjoy.

A Soundslide on Joe Duffy

For this Soundslides project I chose to highlight a local Minneapolis designer, Joe Duffy, who in fact has world renowned work. I am especially interested in his simple, yet effective, design techniques and his personal outlook on life. To compliment the imagery and text displayed in the slideshow, I chose Thunderclap Newman's "Something in the Air" as the soundtrack. Check out the slideshow and see for yourself a little bit about Joe Duffy and his work. As I get closer to graduation I can only hope to work for a company as esteemed as Joe Duffy's design group Duffy & Partners.

Check out my résumé

Like most college students, over the years I have worked long and hard to gain valuable experience in order to fill up the ever-powerful résumé. From odd jobs like waiting tables, lifeguarding, and valet parking, to more conventional jobs like marketing/business intern, and program assistant, I feel like I've done it all.
